From July 2019 to April 2020, no new fracking permits were awarded. This was during an “independent, scientific review of [the California Geologic Energy Management Division’s] permitting process to make sure the state was meeting standards for public health, safety and environmental protection” conducted by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. However, upon completion of this review, 24 new permits were approved April 3, 2020. At the time, CBS Sacramento reported an additional 282 permits awaiting approval.

All new fracking permits must be processed through California Geological Energy Management (CalGEM), an executive agency over which Governor Newsom has direct authority. With the help of your outcry, we can put an end to these approvals.
