Dear Governor Newsom,

         My name is _______ and I'm a resident of [city, state]. I urge you to ban all future fracking on State lands in California. I want the health of my community to take precedence over the profits of Big Oil. The ban will protect the environment by preventing further air pollution, the contamination of groundwater with toxic chemicals, and the vast quantities of water used and then disposed of by the processes.  The ban will promote the health and safety of citizens, especially of those living near potential new fracking sites. The ban will prevent further contamination of citizen’s drinking water and possible amplification of the earthquake threat already looming large in California.  The ban should also be used as a chance to promote and boost renewable energy production, which will help people, the economy, and the environment of the State of California.    This time is crucial, as oil prices have plunged dramatically during the pandemic and oversupply has been an issue. Combined with the environmental and social impacts of fracking, this results in an urgency to ban new fracking on State land in California. From July 2019 to April 2020 there were no new permits issued for fracking in California. This allowed for protection of our communities and environment. It is imperative that we prohibit all new fracking, and we cannot do that without your help.  You have executive power over California Geologic Energy Management (CalGEM), which processes all new fracking permits.   As a concerned citizen, I am urging you to ban all future fracking in California and put all efforts towards transitioning to renewable energy.
